Synopsis
It's New Years eve. A young woman writes a long letter and while she walks to the mail box she bumps into an old acquaintance who wants to tell her something. This results in a strange confrontation. This film is about the grey area between love and revulsion. Why are people attracted to something or someone when they know that will not do them any good? How do people handle these situations? In this short film we follow the thoughts and anxieties of a girl who is struggeling with such feelings. It also covers getting independant and discovering your own identity. Tirza realizes that she doesn't need someone else to mean something in life. She herself is her own personality.

Director
Marleen Jonkman
Studied Art and Cultural Sciences at the University of Amsterdam and achieved an M.A. in 2003. In the meantime she had commenced studying Direction at the Dutch Film and Television Academyin Amsterdam. The film with which she completed her studies “Dochter” (Daughter), was shown at several foreign festivals and won the prize awarded by the public at the Poitiers festival and also a prize for the best photography at the Barcelona film festival. Immediately after her studies she started directing commercials for CCCP. A year later she was invited to join Czarevich. In addition to commercial work she is also associated with the Kosmonaut collective where she directs musicvideos. She is currently working on a film for television in collaboration with the VPRO, a Dutch broadcasting organization.
