Ruben van Leer

Ruben van Leer was born on 14 May 1984 in Naarden, the Netherlands and grew up in a musical family.
He studied design at the Utrecht School of the Arts and audiovisual media at the Rietveld Academy. He also spent a semester at the San Francisco Art Institute to go into film. In 2007 he got his Master’s degree at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam.

From 2009 Van Leer started developing several larger cross-media productions, like the interactive homepage about the Amsterdam street philosopher and homeless Yousef (www.ikbenAlles.nl); in which the audience interviews the main character. Yousef answers their questions on video via his iPhone from the street.
And the dance film Symmetry is also in the making i.c.w. LEVpictures and the Dutch Film Fund. In this film Van Leer is researching quantum-physics and dance together with choreographers: Lukas Timulak and Andre Gin- gras. CERN in Geneva will be the film location where the dance takes part.

In addition Van Leer is developing a production platform: Westframe.com In this platform he gathers artists, locations and projects from all over the world in order to stimulate so-called ‘co-creativity’, aiming to come to contemporary narrative and pictorial forms as a network.
